April 2008 Training Schedule
 
The following class dates are available for the MN Power Limited Technician Continuing Education Training 
 
 April 24, 2008 Tri-Ed Distribution Eagen, MN (Free Class)
 
This will be the only class offered in April. Space is limited.

Here is the schedule for January Power Limited Technician Continuing Education Classes:

BASIC NETWORKING CONCEPTS

January 17, 2008 TRI-ED Distribution in Egan, MN  (FREE CLASS)

January 19, 2008 St Cloud Location

January 24, 2008 Tri-Ed Distribution in Egan, MN  (FREE CLASS)

January 26, 2008 Minneapolis Location

January 31, 2008 Tri-Ed Distribution in Egan, MN  (FREE CLASS)

 Classes will start at 8:00 a.m. and will conclude at 5:00 p.m. Lunch will be from 12 noon to 1 pm. Please arrive at 7:30 a.m. to complete all the necessary paperwork prior to the start of class.

Classes at Tri-Ed Distribution are free. Tri-Ed Distribution is sponsering the training. ALL OTHER CLASSES COST $99.00 per student.

This course will focus on 6 hours of basic networking concepts and 2 hours on National Electrical Code.

TECH TIP #1 NETWORKING ISSUES

Problems with connecting to a network? Here is a troubleshooting tip to help you resolve the issue.

1. Open the "Run" menu under the Start Menu.

2. Type "CMD" in the open window and press the enter key. (A DOS type window should open)

3. Type the command "ipconfig /all" and then enter.  (Depending upon operating system.)

4. Information about your network connection should be displayed. In particular the following information is important: Your IP Address, Your Subnet Mask and the Default Gateway Address.

5. To determine if you have a network connection problem, in your DOS Window, enter "ping" command followed by the Default Gateway Address and you should receive a reply from the Gateway Device.  Example of this command (C:\Documents and Settings\User>ping 192.168.0.1)

Basic Networking Concepts continuing education class is being offered to all MN Power Limited Technician. The course will satisfy 8 hours of the 16 hours requirement to renew your Minnesota Power Limied Technicians License. The class begins at 8:00 a.m. and will conclude at 5:00 p.m.. Technicians should arrive at the training facility at 7:30 a.m. to complete all required paperwork. The course will cover two hours of the National Electrical Code and six hours on Basic Networking Concepts.

The following items will be covered in the National Electrical Code Portion:

Chapter 1 General Definitions, Chapter 2 Article 250 Grounding, Chapter 3 Article 300 Wiring Methods, Article 314 Outlet, Device, Pull & Junction Boxes: Conduit Boxes: Fittings, Chapter 6 Article 640 Audio Signal Processing,  Amplication and Reproduction Equipment, Chapter 7 Article 725 Class 1, 2, & 3 Remote Control, Signaling and Power Limited Circuits, Article 770 Optical Fiber Cables, Chapter 8 Article 800 Communications Circuits, Article 810 Radio & Television Equipment, Article 820 Community Antenna Televsion and Radio Distribution Systems, Article 830 Network-Powered Broadband Communications Systems, Chapter 9 Tables.

The folowing items will be covered in the Basic Networking Concepts Portion:

MN PLT Training Requirements PDF Print E-mail

The State of Minnesota now requires 16 hours of continueing education for Power Limited Technicians for renewal of your license. This became effective on May 26, 2007. Training is available through approved authorized providers. Cost varies among providers.

Digital Video Recorders offer the latest in technology developement for the consumer. This technology allows the consumer to retain video images for years at a reasonable cost. DVR's have proven to be reliable in court proceedings as long as there is some form of "watermarking" the images to prevent tampering.
